Time & Date:
Friday 15th March
13:00 - 15:00
Location:

Friends Meeting House, St Giles', Oxford OX1 3LW

Knowing and being known: Thoughts on Parent infant psychotherapy technique in the face of severe maternal psychopathology.

The presentation will be a clinical case discussion, illustrated by film clips from parent-infant psychotherapy with a mother and baby, 4 months at the start of treatment. The focus will be on the therapist's attempt to work to support the baby's experience and development of a sense of self, whilst living with a chronically mentally ill mother. Particular attention will be paid to working directly with the baby through play. Themes are of hostility, intrusion and dissociation in the parent-infant relationship. Michela will attempt to show how she worked with this, with an emphasis on her counter-transference.
