Tour de OXPIP 2021

Follow the epic journey of Rob, our Chair of Trustees,
who completed the Tour De OXPIP 2021 Triple Marathon Fundraiser!

At 6pm on Friday 11th June, OXPIP Chair of Trustees, Rob Kenny, left The Sunshine Centre, Banbury on his epic one-day Triple Marathon Fundraiser to Didcot, Oxfordshire, passing by OXPIP’s project centres en route.  With much support from OXPIP staff, Trustees, supporters, family and well-wishers - and in temperatures exceeding 25 degrees – Rob successfully completed this heroic challenge, arriving at The Oak Tree Health Centre in Didcot shortly after 7pm.

Rob knew this would be a significant challenge: ‘’It’s undoubtedly going to be painful, but it will be worth it to support OXPIP’s vital work. Early-stage intervention with infants can be critical, because good attachment is linked to better brain growth and a range of good outcomes later in life. As an adoptive parent, attachment issues are close to my heart, and so I am delighted to be doing this Triple Marathon in one day, to raise money and awareness for OXPIP.‘’

Rob has been preparing for this one-day Triple Marathon for some time: ‘’Preparation has involved obviously a lot of running: several runs during the week and a long run on a Sunday - usually about 3 maybe 4 hours; and then some strength training. If you’re a bit older it’s important to have some strength and muscles for this kind of thing, and sleep to prepare for running overnight.’’

But a significant achievement in sweltering temperatures: ‘’Now I’ve just completed it, I feel absolutely 100% stuffed, but tomorrow I will feel very good! With the support of my friend Jonny (who was pacing me), I discovered capabilities I didn’t know I had! I was absolutely ready to stop at Sandford 20km ago and he said, “you can do another 4 hours!” and it turns out I could! Not with great pleasure, but I could!"

So far, we have raised just over £3,000 in donations. We would really appreciate the support of our Oxfordshire community this week to successfully reach our target donation amount of £5,000. Every donation helps to bring vital Parent-Infant Therapy support to families in need in Oxfordshire.
